Each year, the Board of Water Supply (BWS) seeks sponsors for its annual Water Conservation Week Program. Major components of this water education program are the annual poster and poetry contests, which highlight a water-conservation related theme, and publication of a 12-month calendar that features winning contest entries.
BWS is a semi-autonomous agency of the City and County of Honolulu. It is charged with managing Oahu’s municipal water resources and distribution system to ensure a safe, dependable, and affordable drinking water supply now and into the future. This includes caring for Oahu’s watersheds, preserving and protecting the island’s finite water supply, and repairing and replacing the aging infrastructure. Its operations and projects are financed with revenues generated by water transmission and distribution fees; it does not receive income from property or other county taxes and fees. The BWS also pursues federal and state grants to help subsidize BWS projects.
